New Florida Real Estate Agent Here!

I took my real estate test today and I passed!  I set a couple of goals in 2010.  I turned 50 years old and I wanted to make some big changes.  I had the lap band surgery in May and today I passed the test.  I will be 51 on New Years Day.  Time for a new career and get the rest of my weight off for good.  It has been a fantastic year for me and I am so grateful.

Over the years I have had driving jobs.  I was a courier for FedEx for 15 years and then I drove school busses.  I really wanted a job I could set my own hours to, and wear pretty clothes.  Well, my dream came true!

Happy New Year everyone and thank you for all of your support this year.

The Camping Trip

Our trailer
Daytona Beach
Christmas day was warm and wonderful.  We walked 2 miles on the beach, rode our bikes and just relaxed.  Over the next 2 days.......we froze our butts off!  It was 40 during the day and in the the 20's at night.  The last night we were there, we ran out of propane in the middle of the night.  That provides our heat and we nearly froze to death!  That was at 3am.  We had to wait until 7am to pack up and leave because that is when quiet time is over at the RV park.  OMG, my toes were numb!  We drove to McDonald's to get coffee and breakfast just to stay warm for an hour or so.  It was nice to spend some time with John.  We always have some sort of adventure when we camp, and this time was no different.  Good times!

Christmas Camping

We leave on Friday to Daytona Beach, FL with our 29 ft. travel trailer in tow.  John has been working out of town for the last 3 weeks.  Thankfully, he will have some down time and relax a bit.  We have never been to Daytona Beach before, and we look forward to doing some sight seeing.  We will only have 3 days there, but it is much needed.

Next week, John has to return to Albuquerque for about a week and I will join him.  You see, The Queen Bee's birthday is on New Year's Day, and I refuse to spend it alone!  As it turns out, one of our sons' and his girlfriend will be in Santa Fe, so we will drive up there and spend New Year's Eve with them.   What a nice birthday.....to be with John and at least one of my kids.

It has been a great year for me and for John.  His job is great and I have lost over 60 lbs.  I am so happy at this point in my life.  I have so much to be thankful for.  I hope this new year brings health, wealth and skinniness to you all!

Merry Christmas!

The Red Dress

Those of you who were in Chicago for the BOOBS meeting may remember this red dress.  At the time, it fit pretty snug, as Theresa can attest to, because she had to zip me up.  I wore this last weekend to a party for the women's charity group I belong to.  I noticed it felt a little big on me.  My husband, John has been working out of town and could not go.  My friend had to hook my dress when we got to the party, as I could not reach it.

So, I get home that night and crap, I couldn't reach the damn hook!  Well, I have lost 10 lbs since Chicago and I was able to slide the dress right down without unhooking or unzipping it!  Thank goodness, because I would still be in the damn thing today!

Anyway, that is my Christmas NSV this year!

FYI......Rinse Out Your Mouth

I was talking to my son, Marcus, who is an Endodontist ( root canal doctor ), and mentioned my issue with cavities.  One thing he said to me hit me like a brick.  He said to make sure I rinse out my mouth after I eat. He knows I can't drink anything for an hour after I eat, but he said I need to get any food particles rinsed out asap.  Hmm, it does make sense.   So, I wanted to be sure I pass that along.  He also said to use ACT mouth rinse after I brush 2X a day.  It helps to prevent cavities too.

Hmmmmm, this could be the culprit!

Lately, these Smarties candy have been like my crack!  I keep them in a bowl and in my purse. They are 25 calories per pack.  I have no idea why I am hooked on them, but it is what it is.  Anyhoo, my darling husband, John mentioned that these may be the reason for the cavities.  I am afraid he may be right.  This is the only sugar I have been eating ( addicted to ) in the last few months.  So, as of today, no more Smarties crack    ;-(

By the way, I drink Reverse Osmosis filtered water, so I know it is not the fluoride issue.  Thanks for all of your suggestions!

The Dentist Visit That Sucked a Big One!

Let me make myself very clear.....I HATE going to the dentist.  My own son is an Endodontist ( root canal ) doctor, I love him dearly, but I do not want to be sitting in his damn chair!  I take very good care of my teeth, and I go every 6 months because I do not want anything more than a cleaning done.  Imagine my surprise, while in the dentist's chair, I was told that I have 5....FIVE cavities!!!!!!   WTF!!!!

I remember a post that Amy W. wrote about a crazy amount of cavities she had this past year.  She was shocked too!  So, what does this mean?  Is anyone else having this issue?  I know I brush and floss everyday.  I drink a ton of water.  I do not drink anything with sugar.  What gives?

So, next Thursday, my dear friend Sandy, will have to drive me to get the fillings because I will be drugged up on Valium!  I am so terrified of the dentist, that Novacaine does not take effect because I get so worked up.  Therefore, they give me the drugs and I am blissfully in La La land.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I can prevent this from happening again.

Pilates~I think I like it!

I walked into the workout room and saw a woman collecting various pieces of equipment for the Pilates class.  It scared the crap out of me and I turned around and walked back out.  Then I was ashamed of myself and went back in and asked the woman a few questions about the class.  She said to try it and do only what I could do.  Turns out, I liked it.  Some of the moves were a little challenging ( my tummy muscles seem to be very weak ), but I managed to finish the whole class.  I can already tell I will be very sore tomorrow.  I am going to incorporate this into my workouts 2X a week.  I am hoping this will firm me up a bit.

I am really starting to venture out of my protective/embarrassed shell more and more.  It feels damn good!

Zumba for WII~I am in LOVE!!!!!!!

Zumba Fitness BoxshotHey folks,  I got my Zumba for Wii the other day and I tried it out this morning.  OMG, I love it!  I am a bit of a Zumbaholic and I know many of the steps already.  There are 3 different levels, so if you have never tried it, you can learn the steps very easily.  You can dance alone or with other people.  I was sweating it out this morning!  I can't wait for my husband to try it. I would highly recommend adding this to your collection.  A big thanks to Karin @ Lap Band Gal for the heads up about pre ordering   :)

It's Been 6 Months/60 Pounds Lost

Today is my 6 month Bandiversary!  The time has gone by so fast.  I have gone from 245 lbs to 185 lbs.   I would like to get somewhere around 145-150 lbs.  Looking back at these pictures is difficult.  I am still not happy with my body though.  I have no ass to speak of and my belly is still huge.  I know quite a bit of it is skin, and really, I am okay with that.  I have had 4 kids and been overweight so it is my battle scar.  I am too afraid of a tummy tuck, so Spanx will be my BFF.  All in all, my journey has been wonderful.  Everything in my life is so much better.  I no longer take anti depressants and I no longer snore.  No more acid reflux, I can tie my shoes, I can jog, I can wear dresses and skirts!  I can wear a size 14 very comfortably and some 12's.  Shopping is great too!  For anyone who is contemplating getting the band, let me tell you it was THE BEST thing I have ever done for myself.  I am so thankful I could do this.  The blogs have been an unbelievable source of support and a wealth of information for me.  I have met some wonderful people who have become dear friends for life.  I try to encourage everyone to read the blogs.  I have Amy W. to thank for introducing them to me!  Thank you all for your support and kind words.  The pictures may not be in the right order, cause I have no idea how to do that!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Miss Vickie

Ain't She Purty?

This is my new beach cruiser!  I love to bike ride with the wind in my hair and I can enjoy the scenery.  I hope to be able to ride it this weekend.  Walmart is putting the bike together for me.

We are going to Daytona Beach for Christmas this year and I can't wait to ride on the beach!

Lap Band Gal's "What I Eat"

Morning:  1-2 cups of coffee with half and half, and 2 teaspoons of Benefiber~keeps me regular!

1 packet Weight Control Oatmeal mixed with FF milk, chopped walnuts, 2 strawberries, or blueberries, brown sugar, and 1 scoop GNC vanilla protein powder.

1 hour later, 32oz of water sipped until the next meal.

Lunch:  Usually consists of a small salad w/ 2 slices of turkey and  slice of sharp cheddar cheese and various veggies.  Or, 1cup of Hormel no bean Chili w/ shredded cheese and 1 tsp of light sour cream.  Or, homemade chicken salad with 5 reduced fat Ritz crackers

1 hour later, 32oz of water sipped until the next meal.

Snack:  SF pudding, or SF popsicle, or Starbucks Via Instant coffee.

Dinner:  Varies.  Usually, some kind of meat  3oz, salad and/or vegetables~ once in a while, 1/2 piece of crunchy bread.

1 hour later, 32oz of water sipped until I go to bed.

Sometimes I will have another popsicle or 1-2x a week I have a WW Giant Fudge Bar.

Once a week or so I treat myself to 1 Margarita.

I take all of my meds in the morning and space out my calcium and multi vitamin throughout the day.

I shoot for 80 grams of protein a day.  I do not usually count calories.  I either measure or "eyeball" 1 cup of food per meal.  Because of the protein powder in my oatmeal, it comes out to be more than 1 cup, but it is about 40 grams of protein in one meal.  I think this is my largest or most caloric meal of the day.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Lap Band Gal!  Great idea!

Losing My Britches!!

I usually do a walk/jog in the mornings up and down my street.  I am in a water challenge and I sucked at it last week, so I have had quite a bit of water and coffee this morning.  Sooooo, I started my walk/jog today and I was listening to my IPod, when I noticed my workout pants were sliding down my fanny!  Besides that, I had to pee each time I came by my house!  I finally had to find a safety pin to keep my pants up.  Mind you, these are a size large!  Thankfully, I can sew a little, so I will be taking them in a bit.  Even though having to pee and having my pants fall down was a bit annoying, I was also pretty happy about it!  I am looking forward to purchasing a size medium very soon!

Phoenix, Arizona 2010

Me, Crystal and Livi
Me, Jen and Lizzy
It has been a while since I have been able to read or post a blog!  I was in Phoenix for the last 2 weeks and it was a whirl wind time!  I was able to meet with Jen and Lizzy for lunch......I missed Amanda and Angela though.  They both looked amazing and it is nice knowing that I will be back very often and can meet with them again.

Liviana, me, Nicolas and Aiden
My daughter graduated from The University of Phoenix with her Bachelor's Degree in Communications.  I am extremely proud of her!  I had a wonderful time with my family and especially with my 3 adorable grand kids.

I also lost 2 pounds while I was there!  Woo hoo!!!!

It is good to be home,

Miss Vickie

A couple of new lows!

I had to go to my primary care doctor yesterday.  I have been experiencing some dizziness lately...all is fine.  I have a touch of vertigo.....no biggie.  Anyway,  my blood pressure was 106/68!  That is the lowest it has been in over a year!  Of course, the doctor was very happy with my weight loss thus far.

This morning I got on the scale and it showed 189lbs!!!  This was a goal of mine to reach before I go to Phoenix next week.  It has taken me 2 weeks to lose this pound.  I have been exercising 5-6 days a week and I increased my protein everyday.  I noticed that if I don't drink all of my water, I do not lose.

I am off to a fashion show today!  It is being sponsored by Coldwater Creek.  I think it will be a blast!

Have a great day,

Miss Vickie

Loneliness and Exercise

Gosh, it has been a while since I have posted.  I have been reading your blogs though.

My husband has been working in Albuquerque, NM for the last 3 weeks.  He still has another 10 days to go.  It can get very quiet and lonely around here.  Before surgery, I would be very depressed (even though I was taking an anti depressant) and I would eat anything, just for the hell of it!  I can't tell you how many loaded PB&J's I would eat.  So, naturally, I would gain weight.  I didn't even have the energy to go for a walk.

This time however, I have been an exercising crazy woman!  I just got back from a Zumba and Yoga class.  It was awesome!  I just feel so much better.  I have also stopped taking the anti depression meds.  I finally feel like I am in control of myself.

The wedding for my daughter is not to be.  Actually, it is for the best.  Back in the day, I would have eaten my sadness and anger.  Not this time.  I know the exercising is helping with my stress level.  I will be going to Phoenix soon, even though the wedding is called off.  My daughter is graduating from The University of Phoenix with her Bachelor's degree in Communications and I will be at the graduation ceremony.  I am so proud of her.  She works full time, teaches Zumba 2x a week and has a 16month old daughter.  She has kicked ass!

So, if anyone needs a nudge to get moving, consider this your nudge!  Exercise has really helped me overcome a lot.  It has become a bit addicting.  Most of the time I will exercise 2x a day!  I think to my self....who the hell are you?  Where is the old, lazy, fat Queen Bee?

Love you guys,

Miss Vickie

Goal Pants

Hi Everyone!

I found these Dana Buchman Capri's at Kohls on clearance the other day.  They are a size 10 and I have decided they are to be my goal pants.  I hope to reach between 145-150lbs by next May.  I have lost 54 lbs so far so I have 46 to go.

Things on the band front are going very well.  I lose between 1-2 lbs a week.  It may seem slow, but it is very steady and I am happy with it.  I will have my 3rd fill on the 14th of this month.

I am trying to keep myself busy, as my husband is working out of town for the next month.  It sucks, but that is his job.  I have been busy exercising and studying for my Real Estate exam....ugh.

I had a great time in Chicago and it was wonderful meeting everyone.  Thanks for a very memorable time!

A few NVS's

I bought a toe ring and 2 cute Hawaiian dresses in Hawaii 5 years ago.  I have not been able to wear them for that long.   Last week I put the toe ring on and I can wear the dresses without looking like a stuffed sausage.  I can also wear my watch again.  It has a stretch type band and it was so tight.  Now it is loose on my wrist.

Yesterday, John and I were traveling to Philly.  I wore my size 14 dark washed jeans, comfortably.  John said that I look a lot different from behind!  My heart swelled up....seriously.  Just hearing him make comments like that is so important for me.  I simply adore him and I want him to feel proud to have me as his wife.

I can't wait to meet everyone in Chicago!

John

John, after Afghanistan
Before Afghanistan
Okay, I admit I couldn't find this picture earlier today.  Thanks to Draz, I made sure I found it.  This is John the day after he got home from Afghanistan.  He is 15 lbs lighter and clean shaven.  He is such a cutie and he looks 10 years younger....

Hubby is home!

Well, the visit with the grand kids was wonderful.  They loved the beach and the dolphin cruise....we saw dozens of dolphins by the way.  Luckily, John arrived home from Afghanistan on Tuesday morning just in time to see the boys before they got on a plane that same afternoon.  We even had enough time to take them to the beach again!

Weight loss news is great!  I am down to 196....so close to 50 lbs lost.  I am at the gym 5 days a week for 2 hours.  Weight training, core exercises, swimming and zumba.  I am so sore but I love it!  I have been wearing so many dresses.  I adore them!

John came home much thinner and he shaved off his goatee.  He looks 10 years younger.

Company is coming!!!!

My two darling grandsons and my daughter in law will be here tomorrow!  I have lots of things planned for them.  Nicolas is 3 1/2 and all he has been talking about is going to the beach.  Aiden is only 1 1/2 so I am quite sure he won't know what is going on.  We have tickets to go on a Dolphin Cruise, the Gulfarium and we will check out a restaurant named Fudpuckers.  They have live alligators!                                                        Aiden
                                                                     Nicolas

The only bummer is that John is still working out of the country.  We have been waiting so long for this visit and I am so sad he will miss it.  I will be sure to take pictures and movies for him.

"SHUT THE FRONT DOOR" !!!!!!!!!

Yes, I am screaming!!!!  I went for my 2nd fill today and the doctor's scale showed 199!!!!!!  This has been my goal to reach before the hubbs returns from Afghanistan.  Hopefully, he will be home at the end of August.

Dr Freidman said I am rockin the band.  31.5lbs since surgery on May 24th.  I lost 15lbs during the diet and nutrition program before surgery.  The nurse said I am losing at the rate of a gastric bypass patient.  When I told the doctor how much I am exercising, he said that's what is helping me lose at this pace.

All of you have such a huge support system for me and I appreciate it so much!

Rock on with the band!

Spinning...Tonsils and Vajayjay's

So, this morning I decided to fore go water aerobics and try spinning.  I know I would not be able to get up off the seat and ride, so I decided to just keep pedaling.  The room was dark and the music was loud.  I lasted about 30 minutes.  All I could think about was Stephanie describing her experience with Zumba.  She said she would rather pull her tonsils through her vagina than do Zumba.  Well Steph, I will say the same about spinning!  I will stick with water aerobics, swimming and Zumba for now.  I am meeting with a personal trainer tomorrow so she can show me how to use the weight machines.  I do need the weight training.

Oye.....my fanny hurts!

She Said "Yes To The Dress" !!!!!!

I everyone,  I just returned home from NY last night.  My daughter, Crystal and I made it to Kleinfeld and we bought a gorgeous dress!  I even got to meet "Randy"  The Fashion Director at the store!  He is so sweet!  I saw several of the consultants who are featured on the show.  The store is so big and loaded with bridal gowns.  It is simply beautiful.  You can see Crystal's dress here at www.lesposedigio.com, hers is in the Classic Collection, number 8.  The store will not allow photos of the dresses.  It fits her to a T!  It was a wonderful and memorable experience for both of us.  The hubbs had to catch his breath a little when I told him how much it was, but he recovered pretty quickly.......he's so cute!

The wedding is at the end of October and I can't wait!  I am also looking forward to buying my dress!

The Hubbs and The Weekend

My husband John,  has been working out of the country since this past Sunday.  He will be gone for 6-8 weeks and we will not have the luxury of communication everyday as we would like.  I already miss him so much.  He travels quite a bit for work and you would think we were used to it....not so much.  He is always so supportive of whatever I do.  I simply adore him     :)

This weekend I will be traveling to New York City with my daughter, Crystal.  We are going to Kleinfelds' From " Say Yes To The Dress" to find her wedding dress!  She and her fiance, Vinny have a gorgeous daughter named Liviana.  I am so happy for them.  They make me a very proud mama and nonna!

WOW!!!! THAT'S A GREAT MEASUREMENT!!!!

I am so happy I took my measurements the day before surgery.  It has been 2 months and I have lost 25 pounds and 5 inches from my hiney, 2 inches from my waist and bust.  I have been working very hard with Water Aerobics, swimming and lots and lots of Zumba!  I actually look forward to going to the gym!  So,  who am I, and where the hell is Miss Vickie?  I think I have finally made a lifestyle change and it feels damn good!  I really do love my band!

Zumbathon!!!!!

Amy W. and I attended a Zumbathon in Pensacola, FL.  It was held to help support the Wildlife Refuge.  We had 2 classes lasting 45 minutes each.  It was a lot of fun and it was so nice to see Amy again.  Here are the before class pictures and the aftermath!
