Pilates~I think I like it!

I walked into the workout room and saw a woman collecting various pieces of equipment for the Pilates class.  It scared the crap out of me and I turned around and walked back out.  Then I was ashamed of myself and went back in and asked the woman a few questions about the class.  She said to try it and do only what I could do.  Turns out, I liked it.  Some of the moves were a little challenging ( my tummy muscles seem to be very weak ), but I managed to finish the whole class.  I can already tell I will be very sore tomorrow.  I am going to incorporate this into my workouts 2X a week.  I am hoping this will firm me up a bit.

I am really starting to venture out of my protective/embarrassed shell more and more.  It feels damn good!

  3. I've always been afraid of pilates/yoga for a wierd reason. I've heard that you tend to fart a lot (not YOU in particular, I mean in general) and I was just worried that I'd be the crazy farting girl. How is that for stupid? :) I may have to give it a shot. Do you have to be a total contortionist?

  4. You rock Vickie!!! I've done a Pilates class once but used to take private sessions on the reformer and cadillac machines and LOVED it!!! I felt like it stretched me and I walked taller!! Yoga is awesome too!

  5. @ Stephanie....LOL! I have heard about the farting issues during Yoga. Thankfully, that has never happened to me, nor has it happen during a class. And no, you do not have to be a contortionist!

  9. Ohhhh I absolutely LOVE Pilates!! They're so wonderful for my arthritis - I probably couldn't move without 'em! They're superb for the core and I feel so strong while I am doing them! In fact, my sons football team does Pilates as well - imagine it! Don't be afraid, you're going to LOVE doing them! And, the best part is, you do as much as your body can take - which allows you to grow stronger and stronger the more you do them!

    Good luck!

  10. That's great! So proud of you for going back in there. I started attending step classes at my gym by myself and it was actually very empowering.

  11. I have a protective/embarrassed shell, too- so I think I've got an idea of what it took to take that risk. And it is such an amazing feeling when the risk pays off. I need to be reminded of that... thanks!

  12. I bought a 5 pack of classes at a Pilates studio with my sister, but we haven't gone yet. You've just gotten me inspired!

And yay you for squashing your fears and going back in and taking the class anyway!

  14. That's so great that you went back in and ended up liking it. I gave Zumba a try tonight at the gym and loved it. I've been so nervous about taking it and looking stupid, but turns out I'm not that bad. Regarding your comment, I highly recommend cruising. You should go for it.

  15. You rock!! I'm feeling adventuresome on the exercise front these days, too! It's so nice to be at a respectable fitness level and know that no class should be so hard that you can't at least try it out. I'm so envious of you and Bonnie with the Zumba -- it's so much fun, but there isn't a place close enough to me to make it practical for me to do it! But I still love spin, so I'm happy there too. :)

  17. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm following you now. Great to see that you're trying something new like Pilates. My gym offers it too. I think after I get banded and lose another 15-20 pounds I'll have the confidence to get in there and try it. I used to do Pilates videos (way back when) and loved it but I bet the instructors make it even more challenging. :)
