Off to Arizona!

We leave tomorrow morning for 2 weeks in AZ.  Saturday is our grand daughter's first birthday.  I can hardly wait!  We have 2 other grand sons and they will be spending the weekend with us.   We will also celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on July 4th.  I will be checking on the blogs and I will also be taking my daughter's Zumba classes.  Fun, fun!

My Dad

For 50 years now I have loved my dad so much.  He wasn't always the best dad, but he has shown me that people can change.  He and my mom were married in their teens and had me 9 months later.  My dad was in the Navy for 20 years and was gone on a ship or in Vietnam for a lot of my childhood.  My parents divorced when I was 17.  They both remarried and were very happy.  My mom was always the strong one and always there for all 4 of us kids.  Unfortunately, I lost my mom 7 years ago.  My dad led a bit of a selfish life then.  He went on with his life and we did not see or hear from him as much as I would have liked.  He was very judgmental and rude and crass.  I always had so much anxiety when he would visit.  I was always walking on egg shells around him.  I didn't want my kids to piss him off or try his patience.  We had a few humdinger arguments and sometimes we didn't talk or long periods of time.

Finally 3 years ago, he went for help and discovered he suffered from PTSD and had sleep apnea.  Once he had his C-pack and meds and went to anger management classes, he was like a new dad!  He was kind and generous and always asked about all of our kids.  At last, my dad was happy and we were happy to be around him.

He came to visit us last weekend and it was a joy to see him.  He is so excited about my weight loss and always says "That's my girl"!  I am reveling in it.  I can't wait to see him in October when my daughter gets married!

I guess all I want to say is that if you have a trying relationship with either parent, there is always hope.  People really do have the ability to change.....for the better.

Happy Father's Day, Daddy!  I love you.

A New Friendship!

My husband, John and I had the pleasure of meeting Theresa (Tessierose) and her husband, John last night.  Theresa and her family and friends are renting a beach house in Watercolor, FL.  It is only an hour from our house.  When we met each other, it was as though I was seeing a life long friend!  Their friends, Mark and Ginger were a hoot!

They treated us to a fantastic dinner and then we walked down to the beach and talked while the guys smoked their cigars.  It's funny, usually when I meet someone for the first time I am so nervous and turn red in the face.  Not this time.  I felt so comfortable and they treated us like family.  They have some darling kids who were extremely polite.

Suffice it to say, I can't wait to see her again in Chicago!  I am hoping Ginger will join us too.

My John is on the left and Theresa's John is on the right....aren't they handsome guys?

Meeting Tessierose!!!

Tessierose has invited me and my husband, John to dinner at her beach house tonight!  She and her husband live in Louisiana and the beach house is not too far from our home in Florida.  I am really looking forward to meeting her and her family.  She and I will be room mates in Chicago.  How lucky are we to be able to meet each other ahead of time?  I hope this will lead to a life long friendship.  I will be sure to take pictures and will post them soon!

What a difference a week makes!

Good morning,

One week post op and I feel so good!  I think it took me about 5 days to really bounce back.  I am sleeping well and can easily move around.  My incisions are starting to itch and that is a great sign.

I have found a way to get those nasty protein shakes down.  One little scoop of lite ice cream!  I have decided since my calorie intake is so little, I can have a bit of ice cream to get the protein in.

I have lost 11lbs since last Monday.  I fully expect to put on a couple of lbs when I begin eating real food.  Overall, my clothes are fitting me and not stretched to fit me.   My husband says he can see a bit of a change.  John noticing that means the world to me  :)  We actually went to the beach for a few hours yesterday.  It was lovely.

I see Dr Freidman on Thursday and will schedule my first fill after the 4th of July as we will be in Phoenix for about 10 days.  He doesn't want to ask for trouble while I travel....works for me!

Have a wonderful week everyone and thank you so much for the sympathy and encouragement.  I love these blogs and I love all of you!
